BETONG: Sarawak has the most ideal government in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), says Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah.

He points out that Sarawak would not allow itself to be taken for a ride by leaders from outside who do not really understand the people’s needs and aspirations.

“Since its launch in January 2019, we have observed how GPS under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, has very clear policies in protecting the state’s rights and wealth as enshrined in Malaysia Agreement 1963.

“We have also seen how many development programmes and assistance for the state have been cancelled by the Pakatan Harapan (PH)-led government. Promises made were not fulfilled, and there were the many flip flops in the policies made,” he said in officiating at the ‘Sarawak Kami Empu’ seminar in the community hall here yesterday.

The seminar, conducted by the Bukit Saban branch of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), was attended by about 700 women members and supporters from 17 PBB sub-branches.

Batang Lupar MP Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim represented PBB Women chief Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah at the event.

Adding on, Uggah regarded GPS as a state coalition led by a state leader, and compared with the many existing political parties, GPS remained the best.

“We have locals winning in the last general election, but (they) are not fighting for you. There are those who have publicly admitted to lying in order to win.

“Thus, we need a very strong state government to protect our rights and wealth. In GPS, we have a very strong and focused leader in the person of Datuk Patiggi Abang Johari, who has over 40 years of experience,” he said.

According to Uggah, Abang Johari has proven his wisdom and ingenuity when he managed to source for extra funding to finance the state development programmes.

“He is also an inclusive leader, a chief minister for all races and religions through his many policies, and in particular the creation of Unit For Other Religions (Unifor).

“This unit helps in the infrastructural developments of at least 16 different faiths in the state,” he added.

Meanwhile, Uggah who is also PBB deputy president, called upon the Bukit Saban PBB Women members to continue to remain united in order to preserve their strength.

“You have been very important pillars of strength in ensuring victories for the government candidate in past elections. This should be maintained.

“But your most important task now is to ensure that GPS’ ‘Kenyalang’ (hornbill) symbol is recognised by all, especially the elderly rural folk. This will be the symbol used in the coming state election by all GPS candidates,” he said, also calling upon them to help register more youths to become voters.

Rohani, meanwhile, advised all PBB Women members to do their own preparations for any possibility, including the state election.

“Based on Abang Johari’s past speeches, the state election may be near. We must be ready with our explanations.

“We must be able to debunk all accusations directed at us, especially on social media,” she stressed.
