Disciplinary action against two cops for handcuffing, sharing photo of Palauh boy

LAHAD DATU: Disciplinary action will be taken against two policemen who were involved in handcuffing a Palauh boy and spreading (viral) the photo to the public.

Sabah Police Commissioner, Datuk Zaini Jass in a statement yesterday said the police had investigated the matter and found that it was committed by two policemen, both Corporal from Lahad Datu Crime Investigation Division and Keningau Police Headquarters.

Zaini said investigation revealed that the Corporal in Lahad Datu handcuffed the boy and sent his picture to his friend in Keningau to let him know that the boy, who appeared in a photo while holding a toy gun and begging that went viral, had been caught.

The recipient in Keningau later spread the photo to the public.

“Police are concerned regarding this matter and this action is violating the law and not according to the procedures that have been set under Section 15 Criminal Procedure Code and Inspector -General of Police’s Standing Order (PTKPN) A120.

“I have ordered disciplinary investigation to be conducted on the two policemen,” he added.

On February 19, a photo of a boy holding a toy gun while begging at Bandar Sri Perdana traffic light went viral. Following the matter, Police launched Ops Kesan/Ops Cantas and the boy was caught together with 14 others including four adult women.

Shortly after that, the photo of the boy who was already handcuffed went viral and the District Police initiated an investigation into the matter.
