SIBU: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has given the nod to the proposed new Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) administrative building costing about RM28 million in SibuJaya township.

This was disclosed by Minister of Local Government and Housing Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian at a press conference after a project site visit to Kemuyang yesterday.

“Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has agreed, (and the process) now is for the appointment of consultants and others.”

Dr Sim said SRDC had to have its own administrative building to serve the people in areas under its jurisdiction better.

The current administrative office is located at Wisma Sanyan in the same building Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) is putting up.

“As I said previously, the office should always be in the location where you run your area.”

Areas under SRDC encompass six constituencies, namely, Dudong, Tamin, part of Nangka, Bukit Assek, Kakus and Bawang Assan.

Earlier, before visiting the project site in Kemuyang, Dr Sim visited projects sites in SibuJaya including the site for the proposed SRDC administrative building.

He said SibuJaya is a growing and vibrant township with more facilities to be built.

‘It has a fire station, public library, and coming up will be the new SRDC administrative building,” he said.

He also mentioned about identifying sites of integrated Petros refueling stations.

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing Dr Annuar Rapaee, Sibu Resident Charles Siaw, Sibu District Officer Suhaili Mohamed, and Housing Development Corporation (HDC) chief executive officer Mohamad Asman Ahmad were also present at the press conference.
