SERIAN: A total of 22 victims from six families were evacuated to Kampung Betong Kanowit Hall, which is being used as the flood evacuation centre (PPS) here as of 9am today.
The victims consisting of 12 adults, eight children and two senior citizens were placed at the shelter since 10pm last night, according to the Fire and Rescue Department Malaysia (JPBM) Sarawak operations centre’s spokesperson.
“They were evacuated to the PPS Dewan Kampung Betong Kanowit due to the flood that occured at their residential areas,” the spokesperson said in a statement today.
It is learnt that as of 7am today no warning of thunderstorms and heavy rain was issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department.
“The Sejingkat Barrage is now open following the rising tide in Sungai Sarawak,” the spokesperson said
However, further surveillance revealed that the water levels at the river had not reached dangerous levels.
