MIRI: Sarawakians are reminded to be insistent when upholding the rights of Sarawak.
Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat said they must have love for their state and remain united in helping the state government fight for their rights.
“As Sarawakians, we must stay firm with the Sarawak government, this is very important as we do not want to be colonised. We must have greater autonomy in order to safeguard our rights as stipulated in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“I hope we all have the sentiment of love for Sarawak. Peace, harmony as well the spirit of unity and mutual respect must be maintained so that there is no fighting between races and religions in the state where we are free to practise our own religion and its teachings,” he said at the Chinese New Year open house organised by Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Lambir branch that was held at 7Days Food Court in Taman Tunku here yesterday.
“We do not want to be governed by a government that is colonising us all. We have to safeguard our rights as our future relies heavily on these rights that some have eroded intentionally or unintentionally.
He hoped that Sarawakians will continue to support the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government despite disagreements and political affiliations.
On the event, Ripin said it was to celebrate Chinese New Year with the local community in Taman Tunku, Taman Jelita and the surrounding areas.
He expressed his gratitude to all participating stall operators and those who supported the free breakfast buffet programme.
He took the opportunity to mention some of the state government’s policies and the current development in Lambir.
SUPP Lambir Youth chief and organising chairlady Esther Wong said a counter for Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) application for those aged 60 and above was set up.
Among those present was SUPP Lambir chairman Lee Thin Hin.
