KUCHING: A total of 12 mobile bus stops will be set up in the area under the jurisdiction of Kuching South City Council (MBKS) to cater for the free school bus service initiative as announced by the Sarawak government in 2020 State Budget last year, said its mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng.

The mayor said the bus stops will be made available as according to the routes determined for the free school bus service that will be implemented this year.

“Taking into account the free school service might change their routes in the future, the bus stops that we are designing will focus on mobility. It can be moved depending on the needs,” said Wee after chairing Kuching South City Council (MBKS) monthly council meeting yesterday.

He said the blueprint of the mobile bus stops has already been approved by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Wee is confident that a mobile bus stop will be set up in front of SJK (C) Chung Hua No. 3 in the first week of March.

The design of the mobile bus stop is based on a 20-feet container and it can be further modified to accommodate more pupils waiting for bus. Each mobile bus stop costs about RM20,000.

“We hope businesses will support us in setting up this mobile bus stops. We can put up their brands at the bus stops, creating a win-win situation for both sides,” Wee said.

He added security features such as closed-circuit television cameras will be incorporated into the mobile bus stops, in the interest of the pupil’s safety.
