Moses (centre) is brought to the courthouse where he was later charged with murdering his friend.

LAWAS: A mother and son were made homeless when fire destroyed their house at Kampung Tanjung Pagar, Sundar at dawn yesterday.

Darma Mahpiahset and her son Ikhbar Samsudin were sleeping in the house when fire broke out at 5.53am.

According to an eyewitness, mother and son safely exited from the house and later fled.

Meanwhile, head of Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Lawas, Zaki Husin, said based on information from the fire victims, the fire could have started from one of the rooms.

“The victims who were sleeping in the other room were awakened by the heat and they managed to escape safely,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Zaki added Bomba received the distress call at 5:53am and upon arriving at the scene, the fire had completely destroyed the wooden house.

No one was injured.

He said firefighters had difficulties in putting out the fire as there was
no water source at the location and Bomba had to send a fire tender to obtain water to douse the flames.

Eight Bomba personnel were involved in the operation to douse the fire. The operation ended at 7.56am.
