KUCHING: The Health Ministry has revealed that three new Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the country in the last 24 hours.

In a statement on its website today, Health Ministry director-general Noor Hisham Abdullah said the latest 24th confirmed case was a 41-year-old Japanese woman working in Malaysia, who had travelled to Japan in January and to Indonesia in early February.

She was admitted to a hospital on Feb 2020 and tested positive for the virus on Feb 27. She is currently being treated at the isolation ward of Hospital Kuala Lumpur.

The 25th case was a 54-year-old Italian man married to a Malaysian, living in Malaysia. He had travelled to Italy for work between Feb 15 and Feb 21, and suffered from fever, cough and body aches on Feb 22. He tested positive for the virus on Feb 28 and is currently undergoing treatment at the isolation ward of Hospital Sungai Buloh.

The 23rd case was revealed last night by Noor Hisham, who said that a 53-year-old Malaysian woman had travelled to Japan and arrived back in Malaysia on Feb 23 with a fever. She subsequently tested positive for Covid-19 on Feb 27.

Japan and Italy have been badly affected by the outbreak, with Japan announcing the closure of its schools nationwide yesterday and the cancellation of numerous events and concerts.

Italy has 650 recorded cases of the virus, while Japan has 186 cases.
