KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN), PAS and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) today named Pagoh Member of Parliament Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as their candidate for the post of prime minister for consideration by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
BN secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor in a statement today said the 42 MPs from BN –UMNO (39), MCA (two) and MIC (one) — support Muhyiddin as the candidate to be the eighth prime minister.
Meanwhile, UMNO secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa and PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan in a joint statement today said the two parties under Muafakat Nasional, with 39 MPs and 18 MPs respectively, also give their full support to Muhyiddin, the president of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).
A Bersatu statement today said that 36 MPs from Bersatu have also nominated Muhyiddin for the prime minister’s post.
The statement said this was decided at a meeting attended by the 36 MPs today.
Meanwhile, MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon said the two MCA MPs support the nomination of Muhyiddin as the latest situation shows that dissolution of Parliament is no longer an option.
The MCA representatives are MP for Ayer Hitam and MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and MP for Tanjung Piai Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng. – Bernama
