KAPIT: A total of 26 longhouse village security and development committees (JKKKs) in Sungai Melipis will receive minor rural project (MRP) grants of RM5,000 each.

Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat announced the grants, along with RM3,000 for the SK Ulu Melipis parent-teacher association, during a Sarawak Alternative Water Supply (Sawas) awareness and education programme at Rumah Untat Pengiran recently.

“I advise the people to focus on development to benefit from better infrastructure and amenities to continuously improve our quality of life,” he said.

In his speech, Tuai Rumah Untat Pengiran pledged the support of the 26 headmen for Sungai Melipis and nearby longhouses to Jamit for the next election.

“Even though YB Jamit has only been our YB since 2016 and slightly more than three years, he has proven to be a genuine leader who looks after us very well.

“Our message is loud and clear: we support YB Jamit to defend the seat because we are satisfied with his performance and want him to continue serving us to bring more development to rural folk,” said Untat.

Officiating at the event was Assistant Minister of Utilities (Water Supply) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
