KUCHING: Selangau MP Baru Bian has signed a statutory declaration (SD) tonight in support of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the eighth Malaysian prime minister.

According to a tweet by PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil at around 9pm tonight, Baru was at Yayasan Bukhari in Kuala Lumpur to sign the SD before Dr Mahathir.

Fahmi also told Malaysiakini that with Baru, Pakatan Harapan (PH) now has 114 out of 222 parliamentarians and the majority to form a government.

It is unclear how this will affect Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who was announced as the new prime minister by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong this evening and is scheduled to be sworn in tomorrow morning at 10.30am.

Earlier today, PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan had told reporters in Kuala Lumpur that MPs from his party, Umno, Bersatu and Gabungan Parti Sarawak managed to give 114 votes to Muhyiddin for the majority.
