BAU: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) will re-prioritise the development initiative announced by the current government of Sarawak if they take over power from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the next state election.

Its president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh said they might do away with or put on hold big or mega projects that are of less merit and re-channel the money saved to accelerate rural development in the shortest time possible, bringing full road connectivity, full water supply and electric supply to those in rural areas.

“This is our commitment to the people of Sarawak, especially in the rural areas, if we form the government,” he said at the launch of the Tasik Biru PSB service centre here today.

The former Second Finance Minister assured that PSB is a free independent party, not aligned or associated with any other political parties or coalitions.

PSB’s struggle, he said, was to strive for justice, equality, mutual respect and fair play for all Sarawakians.

He said PSB is currently the biggest political party in Sarawak as it is set to contest in at least 60 or 70 seats, if not more, in the next state polls.

He said the party’s presidential council has been working very hard to identify potential candidates for the seats it will contest.

“We will contest in as many seats as possible that we can win to enable us to form a new state government.

“We are free to contest in any seat, and we will work hard as one family to achieve our goal, to change the state government,” he said.

At the function, he again announced Datuk Dr Tiki Lafe as PSB’s chosen candidate to contest in Tasik Biru.

He also received about 2,000 members application forms from four zones in Tasik Biru – Singgai Zone, Beratak Zone, Jagoi Zone and Chinese/Malay Zone.

Later when approached, Wong reiterated that PSB would field its candidates in all eight Bidayuh-majority seats – Opar, Tasik Biru, Serembu, Mambong, Tarat, Bukit Semuja, Kedup, and Tebedu.

He said they had potential candidates in mind for all the seats but could not finalise the others because there are several potentials.

PSB had so far announced two candidates for the Bidayuh seats – Dr Tiki and Dato Ranum Mina in Opar.
