DCM to officiate Pesta Badudun, Buffalo Race Festival

LIMBANG: Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan is expected to officiate at the seventh annual Pesta Badudun  and Buffalo Race Festival to be held on March 8.

The festival which is synonymous with the 20,000-strong Malay community here is organised by Limbang Malay Association (LMA) and Limbang Livestock Breeders and Racing Association in collaboration with Limbang Resident’s Office.

According to LMA president Mohamad Abu Bakar, the two-day carnival will be held at Kampung Lubuk Sigantang

“The presence of the number two leader is much-awaited to enliven the festival is which very significant to the Malay community in northern Sarawak,” he told the media yesterday.

Mohamad said more than 3,000 visitors are expected a total of 40 buffaloes will be involved in the racing events with Awang Tengah expected to flag off the race highlight  – King of Buffalo.

Various other activities to be held include  sports, culture and cooking with twelve stalls to be set up.

Badudun Festival and Buffalo Racing, one of the major events held in Northern Sarawak aims at strengthening community relations and unity among the people living along Limbang river besides reviving the glory of buffalo racing which was once very popular here.
