MIRI: Those who plan to pursue tertiary education in Taiwan should make thorough consideration by choosing the profession with certificates recognised by the Malaysian government.

In giving this reminder, Minister of Transport Datuk Lee Kim Shin said he understood the reasons Sarawakians chose to further their studies in Taiwan, including the financial aspect.

“The tuition fees at Taiwan universities tend to be cheaper and more affordable, resulting in a lot of school leavers choosing to further their studies there. Malaysian government takes very seriously the recognition of certification by foreign universities, thus, it is best to make thorough consideration and analyse these aspects before making a decision,” said Lee when officiating at Taiwan Higher Education Fair at Miri Indoor Stadium yesterday.

Choosing a career path according to one’s own interest and talent is equally important, he added.

“Listen to yourself, the path that you want to take in your future career.

“The advice from your parents, relatives and friends can only be a guideline, it is up to yourself to walk down the path,” Lee advised.

The Taiwan Higher Education Fair which was jointly organised by Sarawak Taiwan Graduates Association (STGA) Miri and the Federation of Alumni Association of Taiwan Universities, Malaysia invited
50 universities from Taiwan to set up booths at the fair to introduce these institutions to students.

Also present were the Federation of Alumni Association of Taiwan Universities, Malaysia president Datuk Lawrence Ting and STGA Miri chairman Vong Onn Kiong as well as members of
both associations and representatives from Taiwan universities.
