MIRI: PAS Sarawak is inviting Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to visit the state, with an eye towards restoring Sarawak’s rights.

Its information chief Zharudin Narudin said with Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) playing the kingmaker role in providing Muhyiddin the numbers to form the federal government, it is only fair that the prime minister reciprocate by making sure the state’s rights and interests are looked into promptly.

“Tan Sri Muhyiddin must make his first visit to Sarawak and fulfil Sarawak’s rights including our oil and gas rights, as GPS played a key role in helping him form the new government,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Zharudin said the spirit of federalism among Sarawakians had long been extinguished by the federal government, and the voices and interests of the state had been neglected.

“Now is the time for the new government to resolve issues concerning the Malaysia Agreement 1963 and give back the rights of Sarawak,” he said.

He added that Muhyiddin must also ensure that development is not mainly focused in
the peninsula, but in Sarawak and Sabah where many areas still lack basic infrastructure.
