KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Forestry Department has seized 45 timber logs during two raids at illegal logging areas on two government land in the state interior.

Chief Conservator of Forests Datuk Mashor Mohd Jaini said the Keningau Forestry Region enforcement team arrested a man suspected of being involved in illegal land clearing and logging at Kampung Kasuing, Keningau on Friday.

He said a tractor, 11 timber logs and about 300 pieces of wood of various sizes were also seized.

In another raid on Wednesday, the Kudat Forestry Region enforcement team had seized five tractors and 34 timber logs near Kampung Tagibang, Ranau, he said in a statement here yesterday.

The machinery was suspected to be used to collect timber logs on government land without any valid approval or permit, he said, adding that, the case was being investigated under Section 23(2) of the Forest Enactment 1968.
