PUTRAJAYA: All secondary schools nationwide can start registering for the implementation of the new format for 2021 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), starting this month, Education director-general Dr Habibah Abdul Rahim.

“With the new curriculum at the secondary level, the 2021 SPM format will see some changes. So, at the moment, the Ministry of Education (MOE) is still in the process of finalising the format.

“It is almost done, the Examinations Board will upload it to MOE website by next week,” she said when asked about the implementation of the new SPM format after the announcement of the 2019 SPM result analysis here today.

About the decline in the number of candidates taking the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology in 2019 SPM, Habibah said continuous efforts need to be done to encourage students to take the subjects related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, including pure science.

“We have prepared a new package this year in line with the 2017 curriculum. It is hoped that the package will lure more candidates to take STEM and pure science subjects,” she added. – Bernama
