Eventful weekend during SIDS’ Triennial General Meeting

SIBU: Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) had an eventful weekend when more than 500 members from all over the state converged on Kuching for many fun-filled activities.

The activities were held in conjunction with SIDS’ Triennial General Meeting (TGM) at Margherita Hotel which was attended by 380 members.

According to a press statement received here yesterday, SIDS has more than 14,000 members in 28 branches.

Meanwhile, the executive committee was returned unopposed during the TGM for the 2020-2022 term.

In her speech, its chairwoman Dato Alice Jawan Empaling stressed on the implementation of four strategic thrusts: education, empowerment, culture preservation, and human capital.

She said SIDS would plan several programmes and activities to achieve this through the Tan Sri Empiang Jabu Chair at UPM.

She thanked the GPS government for its support to make it possible for the setting up of Tan Sri Empiang Jabu Chair and Rumah SIDS.

Last year, three members were conferred ‘Ahli Bintang Sarawak’. They are Jita Sidong (Sarikei chairwoman), Nila Pasak (Bajong chairwoman), and Rabiah Balang (Skuau chairwoman). Margaret Bedus was recognized at the 2019 State Women’s Day Celebration.

Alice also stressed the importance of unity among members and for all to adhere to ‘One Sarakup One Voice’ .
