Mitraf 24 can stimulate local economy, says mayor

MIRI: The Miri Trade Fair (Mitraf) 2020 is timely held as it will stimulate the economic growth in this division.

Miri City Council mayor Adam Yii said the four-day trade fair organised by See Hua Marketing Sdn Bhd would act as stimulus to cushion the impact of the global economic slowdown.

“The objective of this fair is to stimulate the economy to benefit traders and consumers alike,” Yii said when met after launching Mitraf 24 at Permaisuri Imperial City Mall here on Thursday.

Mitraf has been able to attract local consumers as well as Brunei tourists every time it is held here, he added.

Mitraf 24 organising chairman Peter Wong, assistant branch manager Sorina Yeo, Kaledi Sdn Bhd managing director Brian Lau, Permaisuri Imperial City Mall manager Derek Ling, See Hua Marketing Sdn Bhd Miri branch manager Jarvis Lau, and assistant manager Wee Chee Howe were also present at the launching ceremony.

A total of 70 exhibitors are taking part in the four-day trade fair showcasing a myriad of products and services like electronic and electrical appliances, kitchen items and sanitary wares, tools and equipment, higher education, home improvements, security solutions, property development, general trading, food and beverages, optical and eyecare products, consumer goods, beauty and health products, arts and crafts, toiletries, apparels, toys, traditional snacks and pastries, fitness equipment, and wedding planning.

Insurance and banking companies, Inland Revenue Board, Social Security Organisation (Socso) and Employees Provident Fund (EPF) are also there.

Activities held during the fair include See Hua Carnival Fair which features games and competitions such as the pie-eating contest, Tuk-Tuk noodle-eating contest, BBQ chicken-eating contest, and free food sampling.

Readers of See Hua Daily News, The Borneo Post and Utusan Borneo, together with Tong Seng Huat Rice Trading Sdn Bhd, Indocafe and Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad, will hand out free gifts to newspaper subscribers during the four-day trade fair starting yesterday.

A total of 100 gifts will be given away comprising items such as 1kg pack of Butterfly Thai Fragrant Rice, Indocafe gift bag, and Merris Red Palm oil.

Subscribers must show their latest three-month subscription receipts (from Dec 2019 to Feb 2020) or yearly subscription receipts.

Visitors who spend a minimum of RM300 deposit/ booking fee for property or RM100 within the same day at participating booths, even with multiple receipts, are entitled to participate in a lucky draw, which offers 38 prizes.

Mitraf 24, which is endorsed by Miri City Council, opens from 10am to 10pm.

Admission is free.
