SIBU: The relocation of Chee Kung Temple at Salim Road to Sibu Jaya has been hampered by theft and vandalism.

Temple chairman Master Chung Ing Hua was saddened that the new temple under renovation had been broken into and vandalised.

Valuables stolen included six new urns costing RM2,800 each, a clock, two toilet bowls and a generator set.

A statue was also damaged.

The temple which has been in Salim for three decades has to relocate as the land on which it sits on has to be returned to the owner, according to a report in See Hua Daily News.

Its new site will be just outside Sibu Jaya on the road leading to Durin Bridge.

“Honestly, worshippers are more used to coming to our temple in Salim as it is more convenient for them.

“Currently, we are still carrying out activities in Salim.

“The vandalism and the theft cost us dearly. We have yet to lodge a police report and appeal to members of the public for donations,” Chung appealed.
