BELURU: Former Marudi assemblyman Datuk Sylvester Entri Muran was today announced as Parti Sarawak Bersatu’s (PSB) candidate for Marudi seat in the coming state election.

PSB president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh, who made the announcement, said the party’s presidential council has decided to nominate Entri as its candidate for the seat.

“Entri was once an assistant minister (Public Utilities and Agriculture) for a long time. He is a capable leader, hardworking and had served the people (in the constituency) but without clear reasons, he was not nominated as candidate by the then Barisan Nasional (BN) in the last state election, ” Wong said at the launching of PSB Marudi branch and office at Beluru, in Bakong today.

Thus, Wong said PSB has decided to give Entri an opportunity to become an assemblyman again and maybe a member of the state cabinet if PSB were to secure enough seats to form the state government after the state election.

“I believe that the people of Marudi will give their undivided support to Entri and ensure he wins the seat,” he said to a thunderous clap from nearly 1,000 supporters who attended the function.

Entri was dropped as the candidate in the last state election by former Chief Minister the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem.

He was replaced by Datu Dr Penguang Manggil who is the incumbent after winning the seat in 2016 state election.

Penguang won the seat with a majority of 1,387 seats in a three-corner fight against Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Elia Bit and Louis Jalong (Independent).

Penguang garnered 5,493 votes, while Elia (4,106) votes and Louis (56).

Penguang is expected to be renominated for the seat in the coming state election.
