Sarawak records sharp increase in dengue cases

MIRI: Sarawak recorded 637 dengue cases from Jan 1 to Feb 29 — a sharp increase from 314 cases for the same period last year.

The Health Department said in a statement that 238 of the cases were recorded in Miri.

‘This was followed by Sibu (76), Betong (73), Kuching (68), Serian (48), Bintulu (43), Sarikei (36), Kapit (22), Samarahan (14), Limbang (nine), Mukah (six), and Sri Aman (four).

The statement said the number of cases in Miri also saw the highest jump from only 25 in the same period last year.

“As for death caused by dengue, only one death was recorded statewide from Jan 1 to Feb 29 ,

which was in Betong,

while no deaths were recorded for the same period last year,” added the statement.
