MIRI: The support rendered by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) for the establishment of the federal government is to safeguard the rights of the people and the state as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
In stating this, Baram MP Anyi Ngau said the GPS remains firmly attached to the spirit of ‘Sarawak First’ and will ensure that State Sales Tax on petroleum products is claimed.
“GPS is for Sarawakians. We want to claim our rights under MA63. In it, we have certain rights, including immigration autonomy rights,” he said when officiating the biennial general meeting of Telang Usan 4WD Vehicle Owners Association, here last Friday.
Anyi reiterated that GPS is not a member of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) pact which includes Umno, Bersatu and PAS, and led by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
“GPS did not join PN. GPS is just a friend to these parties but did not join,” he said.
On the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration, he said it was due to PH’s internal problems.
“We did not disturb. Some people say GPS had disturbed. This is what we do not want. When this happens, the people of Sarawak became the victims.”
The event saw Anyi announce a grant of RM10,000 to the association, while Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau, who is the association’s advisor and patron, announced a similar grant from Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting.
Also present were Kayan paramount chief Temenggong Elizabeth Deng and association chairman Councillor Jarau Braim.
