KUCHING: United Malays National Organisation (Umno) and Parti Islam se-Malaysia (PAS) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) are expected to be duly rewarded in the new federal Cabinet lineup that is expected to be announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today, said political analyst Professor Dr Jayum Jawan Empaling.

According to Jayum, Muhyiddin became a prime minister due to the backing from these three political parties and therefore, it would not be “smart politics” for him to ignore them.

“Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin became prime minister due to the backing from the United Malays National Organisation (Umno) and Parti Islam se-Malaysia (PAS), so it is expected that these two parties will be duly rewarded.

“So too is Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) that have galvanised his position as the prime minister,” he said, when asked to comment on what is to be expected of the coming Cabinet lineup.

The Prime Minister’s Office, in a statement, said Muhyiddin is expected to present the list of the new Cabinet lineup to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at an audience at 11am Monday.

He is also expected to to announce the new Cabinet lineup at 5pm Monday at the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya, after getting the consent of His Majesty the King.

Despite having the majority of MPs supporting him in Parliament, Jayum opined that Muhyiddin-led government might remain shaky.

“This is because he has slim majority that is being questioned, even if he get through the May 18 Parliamentary sitting,” he opined.
