KUCHING: The state government will focus on the physical development of areas within the jurisdiction of Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) over the next five years.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the first part of the plan will be the development of Darul Hana area into a modern Malay village.

He said under the plan, the state will build affordable housing complete with basic infrastructure and utilities provided for by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

“We will then develop the waterfront up to Medan Niaga Satok under the 12th Malaysia Plan.

“We will also develop traditional villages in Sejingkat and the surrounding Bako area,” he said during the launch of the DBKU Friendly Neighbourhood programme, here yesterday.

He said the government has a masterplan for Sejingkat and in Tanjung Bako, which will see a bridge being built from Tanjung Bako to Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), and from BCCK to Santubong.
