KUCHING: School-going children should avoid coming into close contact with one another in light of the Covid-19 outbreak, said Association of the Boards of Management of Aided Chinese Primary Schools in Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Division president Jonathan Chai.
He said children, particularly those who are into activities that involve physical contact, should be told to refrain from taking part until the coronavirus situation is fully under control.
“Pupils like chasing after one another and during this game, physical contact is inevitable, and physical contact is one of the ways the virus spreads.
“Hence, during such a critical time, pupils should try to reduce or avoid physical contact,” he said during an event titled ‘All against Covid-19’ held at SJK Chung Hua No.3 at Jalan Padungan, here yesterday.
Chai also stressed on the importance of maintaining good personal hygiene to prevent the possible spread of Covid-19, particularly as Sarawak so far remains free from the virus.
He said pupils and the community at large must continue to uphold good personal hygiene even after the outbreak of Covid-19.
“Prevention is better than cure. We must all play our part to make sure that Kuching city remains free from Covid-19.”
He reminded the pupils to wash their hands on a frequent basis and wear a face mask if they are unwell.
Yesterday’s event was organised by the Federation of Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Division Chinese Associations’ Women Section, which also distributed hand sanitisers to the school.
