Sarawak records 5 new PUI cases for Covid-19

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded five new Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) cases for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) yesterday.

In a statement, the State Disaster Management Committee informed that of the five, two were reported at the Sarawak General Hospital, two at Sibu Hospital and one at Miri Hospital.

From January 10 until 10.30am yesterday, Sarawak has recorded a total of 220 PUI cases, of which 207 had tested negative for the sickness.

Thirteen cases are awaiting results from laboratory testing. They include eight cases at the Sarawak General Hospital, two in Sibu, two in Miri and one in Bintulu Hospital.

As at 11am on Sunday, the State Health Department had screened 17,522 arrivals to the state at all its airports, sea and land entry points, bringing the total to 417,458 screened since February 1 this year.

Meanwhile, the department is again advising those who plan to travel to affected countries like China including Hong Kong and Macau, Taiwan, South Korea, Italy and Iran to postpone such trip.

It also said those who have travelled to any of these affected countries within the last 14 days and have developed fever, coughing and breathing difficulty must seek immediate medical attention.

They must inform the doctors attending to them of their travel history. Doctors who come across any suspected Covid-19 case must notify the State Health Department at 082-443248 or via email to the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre at [email protected].

For others, they can contact the State Disaster Management Committee at its hotline 082-443991.
