Covid-19: Travellers from China, South Korea, Italy and Iran banned from entering Sarawak

KUCHING: All foreigners (irrespective of nationalities) who have been to China, South Korea, Italy and Iran in the past 14 days will be refused entry into Sarawak, the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) announced today.

Visitors from France, Spain, Germany, America, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam and Peninsular Malaysia must now adhere to precautionary guidelines issued by the Sarawak Health Department upon arrival at all points of entry to the state.

All countries and regions in the countries mentioned have been designated Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) affected areas, according to JPBN.

“These actions are taken as part of the state government’s efforts and measures to mitigate the spread of Covid-19 into Sarawak. As of March 11, Sarawak remains free of the disease, and the following immigration policies are being enforced,” the statement read.

“Malaysians who are non-residents of Sarawak who have been to China, South Korea, Italy and Iran in the last 14 days are strongly advised not to visit Sarawak as well.”

Sarawakians and Sarawakian permitted residents (PR), work and student pass holders who have been to China, South Korea, Italy and Iran in the last 14 days must undergo compulsory home quarantine for 14 days and they will be subjected to random monitoring by medical authorities.
