KUCHING: Brunei Darussalam has confirmed 14 more cases of Covid-19 today, bringing the total number to 25 since the first case was recorded on Monday.

Its Health Ministry said in a statement tonight that 13 of the new cases were all connected with the religious event at Seri Petaling Jamek Mosque in Kuala Lumpur more than a week ago.

Two of the cases were the wives of new patients who had attended the event but they themselves had no travel history to Kuala Lumpur, the statement said.

The case that had no connection with the religious event had travelled to Kuala Lumpur and Cambodia before returning to the country on March 4.

All patients have been admitted at the National Quarantine Centre and are reported to be in good and stable condition.

The ministry said that from their investigation, 81 Bruneians had attended the religious event from February 28 to March 3.

Out of that figure, 70 have returned to the country and 66 have undergone laboratory tests, while four are still being located.

“Of the 66 who have been undergone laboratory tests, 16 were found positive with COvid-19, 25 were negative and 25 more are awaiting results,” it said.

The ministry advised the 11 Bruneians who are still abroad, including three who are studying in Malaysia, to undergo laboratory tests for the virus as soon as possible.

Brunei’s first case was a 53-year-old pensioner who had attended the event.
