Miri Marathon 2020 cancelled due to Covid-19

MIRI: Miri Marathon 2020 has been cancelled due to the Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19), its organiser Miri Marathon Association announced in a statement today.

The cancellation of the marathon falls within public health guidelines set by Sarawak Disaster Management Committee and the Malaysian health authorities in light of the recent developments of the spread of the disease in Sarawak.

This international event was scheduled to be held on March 22], targeting 10,000 runners from Malaysia and overseas.

“We regret to announce that Miri Marathon 2020 has to be cancelled out of concern over the spread of Covid-19 which has now become a public health emergency of international and national concern, and the safety and well-being of all participants is our main priority, “ the statement read.

The organiser advised participants to stay tuned by following the Miri Marathon’s official Facebook page for announcements on the collection of race pack kit and finishers entitlement.

The association also paid a visit to Miri Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang before holding a press conference to announced the event cancellation, apologising to participants for the inconvenience caused.
