SIBU: Sacred Heart Old Students’ Association (Shosa) and St Elizabeth Old Students’ Association (Seosa), have cancelled the Reunion 2020, scheduled for March 28 in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a media statement issued after an emergency meeting here on Friday evening, the two association said all of their  executive committee members fully supported the decision.

“While we are saddened by the situation, and have no choice, we were motivated by the support and understanding extended to us by the participants of this year’s alumni reunion,” Yong King Sung, president of Shosa said.

A total of 600 guests from Shosa comprising former students and teachers, current school teachers and board members have confirmed their attendance, while Seosa was expecting another 400 guests.

Both alumni made a resolution to focus on next year’s reunion which will mark the 120th anniversary of the founding of Sacred Heart School here.

Initially the all boys Sacred Heart was a co-ed school before the Catholic Mission here set up St Elizabeth for girls.

Over the last decade, their annual reunions typically drew 800 to 1,000 people.
