KUCHING: Sarikei MP Andrew Wong Ling Biu has been tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), a news report said.

News portal MalaysiaKini cited well-placed sources as confirming the case.

A source from DAP said yesterday that Wong has not been feeling well since a week ago and went to Sibu Hospital on Friday for observation.

He was then quarantined.

He was said to have attended a political gathering in Kuala Lumpur from February 29 till last week.

Last night, Julau MP Larry Sng said he was under self-imposed quarantine because he had come in contact with Wong.

“Just got news that the MP for Sarikei has tested positive for Covid-19. Even though I feel fine and didn’t shake his hands nor speak to him, nonetheless as a precaution I will not be organising any events for the next two weeks.

“Everyone stay safe and go to the hospital if you feel unwell,” he said in a post on Facebook.

Two MPs in Sibu also said today that they have isolated themselves after coming in contact with Wong.

Lanang MP Alice Lau said her last contact with Wong was on March 2 and she has been quarantining herself for two weeks.

Sibu MP Oscar Ling too said he has been taking precautions since his last contact with Wong on March 2.

Ling disclosed that he has been in contact with the Health Department.

“I was on the same flight with him (Wong) on Feb 29 (from Sibu to KL) but didn’t sit together. However, we were in the same car from the airport to KL city,” he added.
