SIBU: Police have arrested one of the three suspects who is believed to be involved in a shooting case in front of a coffee shop in Sungai Paradom near here yesterday.

Sibu police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said that the suspect was arrested at 2.10pm at a ferry point in Sungai Paradom here today.

“His two younger brothers are still at large. We are appealing to members of the public to supply information if they know the whereabouts of suspects.

“They are dangerous and one of them is carrying a shotgun,” he told a press conference at Sibu central police station here today.

In the incident happened at about 5pm Sunday, Stanley said the victim, a 38-year-old supervisor of Pan Borneo Highway project, was allegedly disturbed by the suspect who was arrested when he was fishing with his friend there.

He said the victim was provoked by the suspect and a fight ensued after that, causing him to hit the suspect with a wooden stick.

One of the suspect’s brother had allegedly fired a shot using a shotgun towards the victim, said Stanley, adding that the suspect had informed them the weapon used in the case did not have a permit.

Stanley also said that the three brothers have previous criminal records.

He added that police will apply for a remand order on the suspect tomorrow.

He said that the victim, who was injured on his face and body, managed to drive himself to a private medical centre.

The victim had undergone operation last night and is now in a stable condition, Stanley said.

He said that the case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
