KUCHING: The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu’s (PBB) triennial delegates’ convention scheduled for April 19 this year, has been postponed until further notice, said the party’s secretary-general Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi.

He said this was decided at the party’s supreme councii in a meeting this morning in view of the Covid-19 outbreak.

“We expected about 5,000 people at the PBB convention this mid of April, but as advised by the Chief Minister (Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg) this morning, we have to postpone until further notice.

“We have also postponed two launching ceremonies of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) zones in Kota Samarahan and Betong which was initially scheduled for next week,” said Nanta when contacted.

He said Abang Johari, who is also PBB president and GPS chairman, also advised other GPS members to observe the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee’s directive to postpone or cancel all activities that would involve a crowd of 50 or more people to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“We should set an example for others as well,” said Nanta.

In a press conference this afternoon, Abang Johari said Sarawak has so far recorded a total of 34 positive cases over the past three days. Out of these cases 29 were imported cases, he said.

He pointed out that the state government has come up with several control measures to prevent further escalation of Covid-19.

In addition to closing schools and deferring academic sessions, Abang Johari said all Sarawak government official functions, involving more than 50 persons, are to be cancelled or postponed until further notice.
