SIBU: Police are hunting down two brothers who are suspected to be involved in a shooting incident at Paradom near here yesterday.

Sibu police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said that a 38-year-old male victim was injured in the incident which occurred at about 5pm in front of a shop there.

He said that the victim, who is a Pan Borneo Highway project supervisor and his friend, were fishing there before a man, who is believed to be mentally unsound approached them.

“Fighting ensued and the suspect was allegedly hit using a stick by the victim before he left the scene.

“Sometime later, the suspect returned to the scene with his brother allegedly carried a machete and a shotgun.

“The suspect then slashed a four-wheel-drive when the victim was reversing the car while his brother fired shots at the victim,” Stanley said in a statement today.

Stanley said that the suspects then fled the scene.

The victim sustained injuries on his head and shoulders and managed to drive himself to a private medical centre here before being referred to Sibu Hospital, he added.

Stanley said the victim is in a stable condition and able to talk.

He said that the case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
