BAU: Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang hopes to see no more dilapidated homes in his constituency in the next three years.

Lo said they had been given an allocation of RM1 million since 2017 to assist in repairing and constructing homes for the poor.

“So far we have completed about 69 homes (in his constituency) and another 100 homes are awaiting repair works and constructing. We hope that in the next three years, there will be no more dilapidated homes for the poor,” said Lo when met after handing over a house key to the family of Hamidah Mahidi at Kpg Lidah Tanah here yesterday.

According to him, each home for the poor is allocated an amount of RM15,000 and repairing works or constructing will be done with the help of the village people.

“We will buy the materials according to the amount of repair works or constructing and all works will be done with the help of the village people. Assistance is given to all deserving ones, especially the poor families,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hamidah and her family started constructing their house from Dec 15, 2019 and it was completed last weekend because the ‘gotong royong’ could only done on the weekends.

The 42- year-old housewife has been staying temporarily in a self-made home next to the site of their new home for the past few years with her husband who is a labourer and their four children.

She said they applied for the assistance some years ago and only got it approved last year.

“I want to thank the government for helping us to get a new home,” she said.

Their new home with three bedrooms, a living room, and a kitchen is built on a small piece of land belonging to her father-in-law.

According to the village head (KK) Hamzah Bujang, about 10 homes for the poor in Kpg Lidah Tanah had been repaired and constructed over the past three years.

“Assistance can be applied through the KK and we will send the application to the state assemblyman (Lo) for this area,” he said.
