SARIKEI: Both Sarikei member of parliament Andrew Wong Ling Biu and his son Jackie Wong, who tested positive for Covid-19, are in stable condition at the Sibu Hospital isolation ward.

Rinda Juliza Alexander, one of Wong’s political assistants, said in an update yesterday that she had communicated with Jackie via WhatsApp.

According to her, Jackie said his father was in a critical but stable condition.

“He told me he was quarantined at Sibu Hospital isolation ward after the health authority confirmed that he had contracted Covid-19. Jackie also told me that his condition was normal and stable,” she said.

Jackie is a SEA Games silver medallist for hammer throwing.

Rinda advised those who had met with Wong and Jackie recently to take appropriate measures such as self-quarantine and to undergo a medical check-up if they become unwell.

Wong was quarantined in the isolation ward of Sibu Hospital as a person under investigation (PUI) as on March 2, he boarded the same flight from Kuala Lumpur with three people who participated in a Tabligh gathering at Seri Petaling mosque in Selangor and later tested positive for
Covid-19.

Jackie, who went back to visit his sick father a few days later, was quarantined and underwent a check-up at Sibu Hospital, which confirmed he had also contracted Covid-19.
