KUCHING: The police have set up roadblocks around the city to enforce the Movement Control Order (MCO) to stem the spread of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19).

One of the roadblocks was located near the Kuching Old Court House at Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg.

Police personnel were seen asking motorists where they were coming from and where they have been, and advising them to go home and stay home unless they want to purchase essential items and services.

The motorists were also asked if they had surgical masks and told to wear them.

Motorists who did not possess valid driving license were also issued compound on the spot.

It was understood the roadblock started at 10am this morning.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, in a live national address last night, pleaded with the public to stay home in order to contain the spread of Covid-19.

He warned that if the two week MCO does not succeed, it could be extended further.
