BAU: Personnel from the Bau District Police and Bau District Council conducted checks for the second day of the Movement Control Order (MCO) in the district at around 8am today.

The checks were to ensure that food and business operators comply to the ongoing that has been enforced nationwide until March 31.

“Overall, most if not all of the traders and eateries here are following the orders (MCO) as people are aware of their responsibilities,” said Bau district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon to reporters.

He added that eateries in the district are also complying with the MCO by selling food to their customers solely for takeaways.

“At this moment, we are advising the public to adhere to the MCO and staying put at home unless there is a need to go out such as to buy food, groceries or tend to an important matter,” he added.

He also warned that those who do not comply with the MCO would be liable to a fine of RM1,000 or face a jail sentence of two months.

The checks today were focused in the Bau town area and were conducted in the market and various eateries.

The police together with the local council will continue to conduct the checks until the end of the MCO.
