KUCHING: Kuching FA players have been advised to continue training individually during the Covid-19 nationwide movement control order (MCO) period.

Head coach Ideris Untong revealed that there is no directives from the team’s management to monitor the players.

“Although we are a team which requires us to train together, we dare not mingle with each other for now. We must obey the directives by the government,” he said when contacted by The Borneo Post yesterday.

Team training was halted for two weeks until the end of the MCO on March 31.

Ideris also admitted that as for now his main concern is the fitness of his players.

Thus he hopes that all players will do their best in their individual training to keep themselves fit for the next match.

“Not much can be done for now and there is not much updates on the team either.

“I just want all players to stay fit during the period,” he said.

Aimed at containing the spread of Covid-19, the MCO prohibits mass gatherings at religious, sports, social and cultural activities until end of this month.

Commenting on the team’s challenges this year, Ideris said their main target is to stay in the Premier League at the end of the season, adding that a promotion to the Super League would be a bonus for the team.

“As a newly promoted side to the Premier League, it wont be easy for us because the competition and matches are much harder this season.

“But with hard work, we try to do our best and get the best results,” he said.

Kuching FA have yet to register a win so far this season and are second bottom in the Premier League standings with three losses and a draw.

The team were promoted from the third-tier M3 League via a play-off at the expense of Sarawak FA, beating the state team 3-1 last year.

Meanwhile, all football competitions under Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and Malaysia Football League (MFL) are suspended from March 16 until further notice.
