KUCHING: Sarawak has recorded two deaths from Covid-19 today, bringing the total to three in the state.

According to a statement from the State Disaster Management Committee, the victims were a 79-year-old woman and her 40-year-old daughter. Both were from Kuching.

The mother died at a private medical centre here at 2am on March 18, while her daughter died at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) today at 1pm.

The delay in reporting the death of the older woman was because the private medical centre where she was warded had to wait for the test results from a private laboratory in Kuala Lumpur, the statement clarified.

Another family member who had tested positive for Covid-19 is still warded and is on life support at SGH.

The Health Department is still investigating which clusters the two deaths belong to.

The first Covid-19 death in the state was a 60-year-old pastor from Kuching, who died on March 17.

Meanwhile, the state also recorded 10 new Covid-19 positive cases today, bringing the total to 68 since March 13.

Five of the cases are admitted at the Sibu Hospital, two in Bintulu Hospital and three in the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), one of which included the 40-year-old woman who had passed away.

The state also recorded another 37 person-under-investigation (PUI) cases, bringing the total number of accumulated PUI cases to 751 cases.

Out of these, 711 cases had tested negative and 40 more are awaiting test results.
