KUCHING: Finance or payroll sections of private sectors running non-essential services can come to work minimally or by shifts to ensure the employees’ salary are paid by the end of the month, said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said as long as the company adhered to the standard operating procedure of a minimal workforce, payroll or finance departments of non-essential services of private sectors can go to work as usual.

“Up to them (employers), they can go by shifts. They can arrange it (work) by shift. Just like now, minimum 1 meter (social distancing),” he told a press conference at Wisma Bapa Malaysia this morning.

On March 19, The National Security Council (NSC) released a list of non-essential services allowed to be open or operated within certain limits during the movement control order (MCO) period.

According to the list, Attachment B, among the list of non-essential services like vehicle maintenance or mechanic workshops are allowed to be open but to only operate at a minimal, while towing services are allowed to operate as usual.

Works on in-progress constructions and renovations for safety and security infrastructures are allowed only with permission from the Public Works Department (JKR) and the Department of Safety and Health (DOSH).

In Attachment A, among the list of essential services, banking, financial and stock exchange services are allowed to operate normally, but administration and management as well as over-the-counter services should operate minimally and if possible from home.

Broadcast and information services such as the mass media are listed under essential services, and are to be carried out normally with administration and management to be done minimally or from home.
