Govt to discuss face mask ceiling price tomorrow – Ismail Sabri

PUTRAJAYA: The government will review the face mask ceiling price which has been fixed at RM2 per piece, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said the matter would be discussed at the Special Ministerial Committee on the Movement Control Order meeting tomorrow.

“Prime Minister (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin) also disagreed with the price which is too high and during the meeting tomorrow we will ask the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs to review the ceiling price,” he told a news conference after the committee’s daily meeting here today.

Previously, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi was reported as saying that the ceiling price for the face masks would be increased from 80 sen to RM2 per piece, effective from March 18.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said the 10 million pieces of face masks to be brought in from China was funded by the government.

He said the masks would be distributed according to priority namely frontliners while the remaining are for high-risk areas.

Yesterday, Senior Minister (Infrastructure Cluster) Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said efforts were underway to bring in 10 million pieces of face masks from China. – Bernama
