Bruneian arrested for allegedly defying the country’s quarantine order

MIRI: A Bruneian man was arrested by the authorities in the sultanate on Sunday (March 22) for allegedly defying the country’s quarantine order.

Brunei’s Ministry of Healthy (MOH) in a press statement stated that the man, if convicted, could be fined up to B$10,000 or imprisonment for up to six months or both.

“In this regard, the MOH would like to again remind the public, especially those who have been issued a quarantine order or self-Isolation notice to comply with the instructions given especially not to leave designated quarantine area or home,” it said.

It added that the MOH, with the cooperation of the Royal Brunei Police force will constantly monitoring those undergoing the quarantine order or self-isolation.

As of yesterday (March 22), Brunei recorded five new cases bringing the total number of positive cases to 88 people.

Of the number, two patients are under critical condition, requiring respiratory assistance while six cases needed close monitoring. Two cases had recovered.

Brunei recorded its first positive Covid-19 case on March 9 involving a 53-year-old local man. The man had travelled with three friends to Kuala Lumpur to attend a Tabligh (religious) meeting at Sri Petaling Mosque.

The group returned to Brunei on March 3 via land through Miri.
