MIRI: The police are considering setting up roadblocks to address Mirians who deliberately avoid federal roads to get to the city centre in defiance of the Movement Control Order (MCO), said district deputy police chief Supt Mohd Sabri Zainol.

He said police are aware of the ‘tactic’ employed by some folks here to avoid being stopped and questioned about being out during the MCO period.

“There are still many Mirians who defy the MCO to stay at home. What they do is they take the state roads where no roadblocks are carried out to get to the city centre.

“I found out about this today when I did my patrol,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Mohd Sabri said he would bring up the matter with the top management to decide whether more roadblocks would need to be set up along state roads.

To a question, he said the most common excuses given by Mirians when they are stopped at roadblocks, were that they were either out buying groceries, or sending their wives to or fetching them from work.

The deputy OCPD urged the people to comply with the MCO by staying at home and to only head out on urgent matters.
