MIRI: The movement control order (MCO) is necessary and it should have been imposed much earlier if not for the unnecessary politicking and power struggle at the federal level that was gripping the country.
In stating this, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing Datu Dr Penguang Manggil urged all civil societies to abide by the order in order to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) which if not handled carefully and aptly will be deadly like what happened in Italy and Iran.
“In this regard, we should set aside our political differences and move on as a responsible citizen and cooperate in whatever way possible to lighten the burden of the medical and enforcement staff who risk their lives to save our nation,” said Penguang.
“The government has no choice but to get the assistance of the police and the army to ensure minimum movements of people and hence perhaps reduce the chances of the spread of the disease,” he added.
Penguang views the deployment of the police and the army as the last resort because people are still moving around to and from the cities.
“Stay home. Be safe,” he reminded.
