MIRI: A Russian couple with a four-year-old daughter holed up in Kampung Pengalih, Lawas since March 19 received assistance from Lawas Parliamentary and Bukit Sari service centres yesterday.

Fresh fruits were handed over by Deputy Minister of Rural Development Datuk Henry Sum Agong who also handed over assistance donated by Deputy chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan.

Ivan Kudriashov, 41, his wife Anna and their daughter Mariana have been staying at a durian orchard belonging to a villager at Kampung Pengalih since March 19 following the outbreak of Covid-19.

When met at the handing over of assistance, Ivan said he was thankful to those who donated food assistance to them.

He said that they felt safe in Lawas and plan to stay until the situation improves.

“I have met with the Immigration department, Health Ministry and the police but we would like to stay here until the situation improves,” he said.

Meanwhile, Henry asked for the villagers in Kampung Pengalih to look after the Russian family and ensure their needs are relayed to the district office in Lawas.
