MCO brings haircut blues among men

MIRI: Men here are complaining that they cannot get their regular haircut at the barber salons.

This is because the barber shops or salons are closed in compliance with the movement control order (MCO) whichcame into effect on March 18 to counter the spread of coronavirus.

Dewan Usahawan Bumiputera Sarawak (DUBS) Miri branch secretary Abdul Razak Joni said he needed a haircut before the MCO was imposed but found that his regular barber’s outlet was already closed.

“Now after more than 20 days of the MCO my hair is getting longer which will change my appearance,” he said with a laugh recently.

However, he did not complain much about the situation, saying though the MCO had caused major disruption to everyone it had to be followed to avoid being infected by the virus.

“We all have to adapt to the present situation by working from home, observing social distancing and staying at home,” he said.

Sharing the same view was a petty trader, Hasnan Ahmad, who said it is best to just keep the hair long for the time being as long it is kept tidy and clean.

He suggested that those who could do it cut their own hair at home or even shave their head bald.

“We can’t do much at this time but we must be ready for the worst to come. What is important is we must abide by the government directive to stay at home,” he advised.

He said he would only cut his hair which was growing longer when the MCO is lifted,

A resident of Pujut, Alem Abdul Hamid in his 30s, is mulling to shave his head so that his hair would remain short but worried that doing so would change his appearance.

“We must comply with the directive and stay at home,” he said.
