MUKAH: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs here confiscated 40 face masks believed to have been sold at RM100 at a business premises in Dalat on Wednesday.

According to its branch chief Salihin Den, they acted against the business owner following complaints received from members of the public through social media.

The owner sold the 3-ply face masks at RM2.50 each which is way above the ceiling price of RM1.50 each, he told a press conference here yesterday.

The case would be investigated under Section 11 of Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.

If convicted, the suspect is liable to a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or a jail term
not exceeding three years or both.

Face mask is one of the most essential items in the market since the start of Covid-19 pandemic.
