Resort becomes quarantine centre for overseas arrivals


MIRI: Miri Division Disaster Management Committee has approved Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club (EVGCC) as quarantine centre for passengers arriving at Miri Airport from foreign countries

Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin confirmed this yesterday after leading an inspection of EVGCC’s facilities with 51 rooms comprising 25 Deluxe rooms and 26 chalet rooms.

Lee who is also minister in charge of Miri Division Disaster Management Committee said 13 overseas passengers were transferred from Teacher Education Institute (IPG Miri) and Mega Hotel to EVGCC yesterday afternoon.

Three returned from Turkmenistan, Myanmar and United Kingdom with one returning from Mexico, Taiwan, South Sudan and Singapore.

“All the individuals both locals and foreigners upon arrival at Miri Airport from overseas will be quarantined at EVGCC.

“We will provide health facility at EVGCC and take blood sample for Covid-19 test at the resort too.”

The committee agreed that EVGCC meets the standard and procedure set by Ministry of Health Malaysia. Miri Divisional Health officer also gave the green light to EVGCC as another quarantine centre as it is very spacious.

“Medical staff deployed to (EVGCC) will wear personal protective equipment (PPE).”
